Home To Me The sixth album from Eriskay Lilt has been well worth the wait. Combining a fine blend of original material with a selection of popular favourites, including Scottish, Ceilidh, Irish, Country and Pop, there really is something for everyone amongst the twenty tracks.
The evocative title track “Home To Me” features Fergie MacDonald’s haunting melody “Afghanistan” and perfectly captures the emotion behind Kathleen’s lyrics. In true ceilidh spirit, the punchy jigs, marches and reels will have the listener itching to take to the dance floor, nicely balanced by the gentler waltzes including the timeless “Dark Island” and Don’s recent composition, “Christine’s Waltz”.
The Beatles, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette and Daniel O’ Donnell are all covered, and Eriskay Lilt bring us right up to date with a fresh take on Kylie Minogue’s “All The Lovers”.
Joining Don and Kathleen on several tracks - and taking the lead on a couple of occasions - are daughter Karen and nieces Mhairi and Kristina, helping to ensure that Scotland’s musical tradition continues to grow and develop. Multi-instrumentalist talent abounds, with some superb playing of pipes, clarsach, whistle and piano as well as strong vocal performances on display.
With the usual high quality backing from Scotland’s finest musicians, this is another great recording to add to your collection.
