Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

    What’s the duo’s line-up?
Don is an accomplished accordionist and Kathleen a fine vocalist. With a helping hand from modern technology and a high quality PA system we produce a very full sound which usually has the dance floor packed!

What sort of music do you play?
We pride ourselves on being able to cover a wide range of musical styles. Don’s expertise on the accordion, combined with his Highland background means that he is second to none for playing for Scottish ceilidh dancing. Kathleen’s vocal repertoire includes all the usual Scottish, Irish and Country & Western favourites as well as contemporary pop songs. There really is something for everyone!

Do you also provide a disco?
We are happy to provide a disco service in addition to our ceilidh music. Simply provide us with your playlist or any special requests and we’ll take care of the rest. Our high quality PA system packs a punch that will have you dancing the night away!

    Where do you travel?
Most of our work takes us to venues throughout the west of Scotland including Glasgow, Ayrshire, Argyll and the Western Isles. However, we are no strangers to Inverness, Aberdeen or Edinburgh and have even been known to venture into England on occasions! Distance is no object, providing it fits in with the rest of our commitments.

    How much do you charge?
There are many factors to be taken into consideration when determining the price for a booking. For example, the date, location and start & finish times of the function all have a bearing on the final fee quoted to you. For this reason it is impossible to give a simple answer here. However, we are confident that you will find our prices competitive. Indeed, because you are dealing directly with the band, our prices are significantly cheaper than booking a similar band through an entertainment agency. Please contact us for a free, no-obligation quotation.

We recommend that you visit the CDs section of this website. On each of the individual CD pages, you will find links to various sample sound files. Click on any of these links to hear the relevant CD track. Please note that the sound quality of the samples has been reduced to speed up download times.

Alternatively, we often perform live at The Park Bar, 1202 Argyle Street, Glasgow (admission is free!) To find out the date of our next appearance there please contact us.

Where did the name ‘Eriskay Lilt’ originate?
Don is originally from the tiny hebridean island of Eriskay, famous for its connections to Bonnie Prince Charlie and the sinking of the SS Politician (which was the inspiration for Compton MacKenzie’s famous tale, “Whisky Galore”). When the duo first formed, it was Kathleen who, after much debate, decided to abbreviate the title of the renowned song “Eriskay Love Lilt”, to give them a name which reflects their music and heritage so well.
